Recipient The St. Thomas More Award 2014
The Organizers of the Great Irish Fair of New York presented Mr. Tormey with the coveted, 2014 St. Thomas More Award. The award is given in honor of St. Thomas More, the brilliant author, Chancellor and head of the English Judiciary, who was beheaded by King Henry VIII in 1535 for refusing to compromise his Catholic principles and bow to the wishes of the king. St. Thomas More is the patron saint of lawyers and this award is presented to that lawyer who best exemplifies the qualities and values of St. Thomas More.

President The Staten Island Trial Lawyers Association 2009-2011
Founded in 1965, the mission of this fine organization is to foster ethics, education and good will among Staten Island lawyers and to protect the rights and civil liberties of the Staten Island community in a fair, respectable and competent manner. In 2009, Tom Tormey was elected the president of this fine organization.
Bureau Chief Special Investigations Bureau – Special Narcotics
Prosecutor for the City of New York -Manhattan District Attorney
The Special Investigations Unit is a bureau of elite prosecutors handling long range, complex investigations and prosecutions of major narcotics violators. The offenders being investigated and prosecuted were international, national and local narcotics dealers who were involved in the manufacturing and distribution large quantities of narcotics. Mr. Tormey, as Bureau Chief, was responsible for the running of the bureau, lending assistance to attorneys in his bureau, making critical decisions on all cases as well as trying cases that he and others had worked on.
